WHAT IS MISSION?
WEBSTER DEFINES MISSION AS A BODY OF PERSONS SENT TO PERFORM A SERVICE OR CARRY ON ON ACTIVITY.  IN THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW, JESUS TELLS US THAT WHAT WE DO FOR ONE ANOTHER, WE DO FOR HIM (MT. 25:31-46).  SO... MISSION IS SENDING A GROUP OF PEOPLE OUT TO SERVE OTHERS ON JESUS' BEHALF!  CLOTHING THOSE WHO NEED TO BE CLOTHED, FEEDING THOSE WHO ARE HUNGRY, HELPING THOSE WHO ARE SICK, AND VISITING THOSE WHO ARE IN PERSON.  WITH THAT SAID, WE INVITE YOU TO TAKE PART IN THESE AMAZING CENTENARY YOUTH SUMMER MISSION OPPORTUNITIES!  PLEASE NOTE THAT EACH BROCHURE IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE!  BLESSINGS AS YOU PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER THE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES!  CONTACT TAMMY WITH ANY QUESTIONS!

Hinton Rural Life Center:  JUNE 15TH - 20TH, 2008

Check out the download for the HINTON brochure!

Who is invited?

Middle High and Senior High youth are all welcome for this super mission week!  During the week, evenings are free for self-led devotions, discussion time, fun adventures, games, and relaxation.  Plus, we will finish off the week with a trip white water rafting!

What is Hinton Rural Life Center?

Located in Hayesville, North Carolina, Hinton is a mission agency of the United Methodist Church and creates opportunities for work teams from all over the country to experience the rich mountain culture found here, to serve with others in repairing or building new homes with families, and to grow in their understanding of faith in action.

The work includes repairing porches, painting homes, fixing leaky roofs, building ramps, replacing rotten floors, and other similar home repairs that greatly improve living conditions.  In doing this good work, teams build relationships with the family/agency and developing Christian community.

Where will we stay?

Those who come to serve will stay in the guest rooms of the Hinton Lodge or in one of the cottages, share meals together in the dining room, and utilize any and all of the meeting facilities.  Hinton also offers a chapel, an outside porch and deck area with rocking chairs, lakeside recreation (including swimming, picnic, and campfire areas), basketball and volleyball courts, and a vegetable garden.

How much does it cost?

The cost of our trip is $505 per person.  This cost incudes your camp fee, T-shirt, gas, white water rafting trip, and dinner out on Wednesday.  It does not include your food on the way to Hayesville and back...or spending money!

TEAMeffort Trip to Chicago:  JUNE 28TH - JULY 6TH, 2008
Check out the download for the CHICAGO brochure!

Who is invited?

All rising 9th graders through graduating seniors are all invited to consider this mission opportunity!  Space is limited, so if this is something you really feel God is calling you to be a part of—register quickly! If you have questions, give Tammy a call 397-1337. We are so excited for this opportunity!

Who is TEAMeffort?

This year we will be "teaming up" with an organization called TEAMeffort.  Over the years TEAMeffort has brought over 500,000 youth and leaders from thousands of churches of different denominations together to work side-by-side on life-changing, eye-opening, faith-building mission experiences.  They are a great organization focused completely on Jesus and giving us the opportunity to serve Christ with our hands and feet. They will provide us with the projects, tools, materials, site—leadership, meals, music & programs, housing, etc. There will be opportunities throughout the week for us to have laugh-out-loud fun... spend some time exploring the city... but mainly, a chance for us to come together as the Body of Christ in community—sharing all that we have, in one heart and mind, to serve the least, the lost, and one another.

Why Chicago?

Within the bustling city of Chicago are many areas where families struggle to just get by.  Our group will be able to reach out and serve in some of the poorest inner city neighborhoods through a variety of service projects including home repair, children's activities, and working at food and clothing distribution centers.  We will have the opportunity to serve others on behalf of Christ in several of these outreach programs during the week leading to a full experience in inner city missions.

Also, Chicago is full of opportunites for us as a group to experience some great sites and events.  While we are there we'll take in a White Sox game, visit Lincoln Park Zoo, see the 4th of July fireworks over Lake Michigan, and much MUCH more!

How much does it cost?

The cost of our trip is $489 per person.  This cost includes your TEAMeffort registration fee, T-shirt, gas, & White Sox ticket.  It does not include your food on the way to Chicago and back...or spending money!
