We invite you to consider becoming a member of Centenary. Membership in a church is really about discipleship about being a faithful follower of Christ. At Centenary, we work to help all our members and prospective members become followers of Christ.
When you join a United Methodist church, you will be asked, "Will you be loyal to The United Methodist Church, and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?"
Prior to joining the church, you will be asked to attend an Orientation session where we will explore the membership vows more deeply. We will share with you our commitment to help you live into those vows. We ask all persons to attend this session even if transferring from another United Methodist Church.
Orientation sessions are held the third Sunday of each month in the church parlor from 9:30 10:45 a.m. Childcare is available. For more information, or to register for the next session, contact Don Carlton, 397-1352 or 724-6311, ext. 1352, or dcarlton@centenary-ws.org. Or contact Ann Priester at 407-4699 or annepriester@aol.com.
There are several ways one can join the church:
Baptism and Profession of Faith
The United Methodist Church recognizes baptisms of other Christian traditions because we believe that baptism is a one-time occurrence. It is typically done in the context of a regularly scheduled worship service because the congregation plays a critical role in the life of the person being baptized. If you have not yet been baptized, in order to join the church, you will be baptized and make a public profession of faith. By profession of faith, we simply mean that you will respond to historic questions of the faith which will be discussed with you prior to joining.
Profession of Faith
If you have been baptized but have not made a profession of faith as an adult, you will be asked the questions noted above.
Transfer of Membership
If you are transferring your membership from another denomination or from a United Methodist congregation, Centenary will write your previous church for a letter of membership transfer.
